Knocked Up

We watched this tonight. It stars Katherine Heigl, from Grey's Anatomy (Al's favourite tv show by the way). Anyway it follows a young couple after a one night stand, and pregnancy ensues (adult themes - sorry kiddos). It was OK, the first half much better than the last half - indeed we thought half an hour could have been chopped off towards the end without any problem. Al gave it 7, while I gave it 6.

did i miss something?

today grace awoke with the idea that she is going to change her name. does not like grace anymore and will let us all know in due course how she would like to be addressed (yes she is still 6).

then after repeated efforts to get her to tidy her room, for which she has found a million and other reasons not to be doing (although i actually can't blame her for this, as i am sure that such severe procrastination is hereditary and one of my most painful flaws), she calmly declared to me:

"patience grasshopper"

i have just resigned and am looking for a new job!!!

Potluck Fun!

Rich and I hosted a potluck supper last night. We had a great mix of some of our favourite people... including Jen, David, and Sage; Ali, Beth, et al, Beth and Scott; Michelle and Mark, et al; and Joel. It was quite a crowd... We made vegan chili, rice, green salad, and our friends brought a host of delicious offerings... including hummus, and THREE different cakes....

We had a lot of fun and wondered why we don't do this sort of thing more often.

Kiltie and Sammy were away at the spa... and, frankly, this was very fortunate as it would have been mayhem with all the kiddos.

Dan in Real Life

We watched this last night. Steve Carell stars, he of The Office (US). Not bad at all, A gave it 9 out of 10, while I gave it 2 out of 10 being a more tougher reviewer. Only kidding, it was well worth a 9, we rarely agree so that was something new. Now it's my turn on Netflix - I wonder what Iranian epics, set in the 1800's, two-parters they have....

toad food

...not sure why I feel compelled to share this, but as Grace seems to be organising our menu lately, thought I should report that tonight we are having sesame toad-food!

Birthday Boy!

It's the birthday boy! Kiltie is THREE today.... aw, cute. It was too wet to do anything really special... but a trip to the beach is planned for Monday!

so if you don't eat meat anymore, then you need more rice crispie cakes!

This blogging is rather good fun!
So, Grace and Rich are in the kitchen...with me keeping a healthy distance from the whole spectacle! And yes, all chefs wear hats!

grace goes veggie

Grace came home from school today with the declaration that she is no longer eating anything with 'eyebolts'. Because Mr Kelly doesn't so she isn't either (Mr. Kelly is Mrs Kelly's husband (!) and incidentally the school psychologist....cunning eh?! Call me cynical, but I wonder if it has anything to do with lack of teeth...

What Are You Reading?

I have two books on the go - Howard Zinn's 'A People's History of the United States' which I'm halfway through, except I've been reading it for about six months on and off. Basicially, it's been a stitch up from the beginning, when the first Indian was shot in the back...

For class, Viktor Frankl's 'Man's Search for Meaning' a renowned existentalism text basicially stating that in even the most adverse situations, a person can decide to create meaning through suffering which will enable them to survive that situation. For example, watching Wolves lose, the fan can find comfort in the sunny sky above, and get through 90 minutes of misery before escaping.

Let it snow....

We have almost record snow fall in Maine this year.... Sammy did a runner yesterday.. he escaped over the fence only to find himself snout deep in snow!

Our driveway is so snowy that we couldn't even plow this weekend... another foot of snow.
